BEFORE
Our goal with phase 1 of the remodel is to open up the space adjacent to our dining room. Before the remodel we had a laundry closet, a bedroom, and a 1/4 bathroom with a large closet.
In a nutshell, a dark hole that sucked light out of the main living area.
We need LIGHT and more room for entertaining.

Installing the 24' beam to support the ceiling.
We are very thankful to our friends for helping install the beam.
This took four burly guys, four hours to complete.

Slow progress . . .
Getting the windows in made a HUGE change. We finally had light!
The drywall took a very long time to complete. The biggest mistake we made during this project was trying to leave existing drywall and try to patch in segments we needed to replace. We will never do this again. We will remove ALL the drywall. It would have saved us time and money in the long run. |
Our beach inspired laundry room is nearly finished!
We still need to trim the inside and outside of the window, and build the sorting station. Six bins in a vertical cabinet. I can hardly wait!

Transom
Some thought I had lost my mind when I begged Mr. Dusty Butts for a custom made transom. I felt it would be the perfect finishing touch above the laundry room door.
We are so lucky to have a world renowned stained glass artist living only 15 minutes from us. We couldn't be happier with the design and quality of the transom Kathy Pierce did for us. Kathy's website, Images N Stained Glass has some amazing photos of her work. I have included two photos so you can see how the glass she chose changes with different types of light. |
The wine bar is a HIT!
Here is a "before" picture of the wine bar. Click here for more information on the china hutch to wine bar project.
We purchased this hutch in late July / early August. At that time, if you would have told us we would still be working on the remodel in December, we would never have believed you. The poor hutch had been stored in our garage over four months; during which time we were sawing, sanding and painting. It was a MESS. I was ready to sell it on Craigslist and be done with it. It was Mr. Dusty Butts who convinced me it could still be the wine bar of my dreams. He said we could clean it up and give it some fresh paint and it would look even better than the original. He was right!! I'm so thankful for girlfriends, sisters, family, and my amazing husband to share this space with! |
