DIY Rain Chain with vintage insulators
When my husband and I were first dating we did a lot of antiquing. This was new to me. Mr. Dusty Butts, on the other hand, had been in and out of antiques stores his entire life. His family was in the business.
I needed something to collect, so I started collecting insulators. I loved the blue ones most of all.
He would ask me, "What are you going to do with all those insulators?" I use them as door stops. I have some on the shelf above my kitchen window. Now I have them in my rain chain.
I used some craft wire left over from some Christmas Tree ornaments.

The bookcase project
DIY Pot Rack: $13.00
This project started when I (Mrs. Dusty Butts) was sick of putting my frying pans away in the cupboard. I was constantly dragging out the entire stack of pans, trying to use pot-holders between the pans to protect the surface, while stacking them largest to smallest, and then cramming the huge (very heavy) stack of pans back into the cupboard. There had to be a better way.
My eye stumbled across the empty space above my refrigerator and my idea for an inexpensive DIY pot rack was born. I am only 5' 2" tall and able to easily hang and remove all of the pans without a step-stool. |
We purchased a 1/2" metal curtain rod (Lowes, $9.97), and hung it above the edge of the refrigerator, making sure both brackets were mounted into a stud. I wanted to be able to hang my cast iron pans and not worry about the weight.
We purchased hooks to hang a shower curtain from Walmart ($2.96 for 12 hooks). There were two weights of hooks available; we purchased the heavier of the two. The "before" hook is on the left, and the "after" is on the right. Mr. Dusty Butts then snipped off the end to make it easier to hang the pans. It made great use of the empty space above our refrigerator and will keep our pans from scratching against each other in the cupboard. It's also easier for me to retrieve pans for cooking, and put them away when they are clean. Hooray! Don't you think new stainless steel pans would look great?! |

The China Hutch: bring it into the current century
Locker shelf adds room for storage under the sink.
This locker shelf helped me make the most of my limited under the sink space in our bathroom. Bath towels below and washcloths and hand towels above. A great $4.00 fix. (Locker shelf purchased at Big Lots.)
Kitchen island made from repurposed windows.
I love this idea.
I hate that I can't pin directly from Facebook.
This lovely kitchen island was from The Cottage House.
If anybody makes one of these, please let me know. I'd love to see other variations.
